Use broad media-based efforts to educate large groups of current and potential tobacco users about the dangers of tobacco use

Provide home visiting services to low income, first time mothers and their babies, starting during pregnancy and continuing through a child’s second birthday

Provide employees with paid time off for circumstances such as a recent birth or adoption, a parent or spouse with a serious medical condition, or a sick child

Engage community members to determine how public budgets are spent, ideally to improve neighborhood conditions and reduce inequality.

Promote abstinence from sexual activity, generally only with mention of condoms and birth control to highlight failure rates

Use counseling, informational materials, etc. to inform smokers and non-smokers of the harms of secondhand smoke and encourage them to implement home smoking bans

Implement private sector rules or public sector regulations that prohibit smoking indoors or restrict it to designated, often outdoor, areas

Reduce patients’ out-of-pocket costs for tobacco cessation therapies such as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and cessation counseling participation

Establish time-limited, subsidized, paid jobs to help individuals with barriers to employment transition to unsubsidized employment
