One Community's Path to Creating Healthy and Equitable Opportunities

Date & time:

Many factors influence health outcomes, such as health behaviors, access to clinical care, physical environments, and social and economic opportunities. We often think of these as broad drivers of health—meaning the kinds of things that happen outside of our doctor’s office that contribute to the ways in which we can be healthy. It is important for everyone in our communities to have access to quality schools, livable wage jobs, positive social interactions, and all the resources needed to live our healthiest lives. Creating opportunities for everyone to benefit from local social and economic capital is core to building a Culture of Health and advancing equity in any community.

This webinar will feature guests from Eatonville, Florida, home to the oldest incorporated Black community in the United States, where leaders came together to understand the many factors influencing health in their community and to address barriers to opportunity. Eatonville’s focus on economic growth, quality education, and social support—and their commitment to improving health for all—resulted in this resilient community receiving a 2018 RWJF Culture of Health Prize.

If you are looking for an example of the multiple drivers of health in your community, this webinar will inspire you to take action and engage other partners. Also, plan to attend the follow-up discussion group immediately after the webinar. You’ll have the chance to interact with other communities and share where you are in your journey toward creating a Culture of Health.
