New and Updated Strategies from What Works for Health
Our What Works for Health database holds more than 400 evidence-informed policies and programs to make a difference in your community. Our analysts recently updated the database with new studies, implementation examples, and resources for these eight strategies:
- Broadband initiatives: Expand access in under-resourced areas through initiatives that address infrastructure and cost barriers
- Community-based interventions for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination: Support HPV vaccination through interventions including education, outreach, and support finding and securing vaccines
- Enforcement of laws prohibiting alcohol sales to minors: Initiate or increase compliance checks, parking lot observation outside alcohol establishments for laws that prohibit alcohol sales to minors
- Rain gardens: Establish bioretention systems (e.g., rain gardens, bioretention cells, green roofs, planter boxes, bioswales, etc.) to help control stormwater in city landscapes.
- Campaigns on alcohol misuse among college students: Provide information to reduce college students’ misperceptions about alcohol and change their drinking behavior
- Tobacco retailer restrictions: Set regulations on the number, type, proximity, and density of tobacco retailers — especially near homes and schools.
- Tobacco taxes: Increase tobacco prices through federal, state, or local taxes
- School-based alcohol prevention programs: Provide students with information and skills to prevent alcohol use
