Power-building approaches for health and equity

Date & time:
April 22, 2025 3pm EDT

Power is the ability to achieve a goal and drive meaningful change. Those in power can create and maintain laws, policies, worldviews and norms that shape community conditions and influence health. Communities can build collective power by organizing and taking action — setting agendas, shaping public discourse, influencing decision-makers and fostering relationships.

In this webinar, we’ll explore the different ways power is expressed — visible, hidden and invisible — and how we can harness it to advance health and equity. María Poblet, executive director of the Grassroots Power Project, will introduce a power-building framework to help organizations develop campaigns for economic, racial, gender and environmental justice. Angela Acker from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will describe how to use narrative power to shift worldviews and mindsets in support of health and equity. Before attending, we encourage you to read CHR&R’s 2025 report highlighting how power influences health, and to watch Building Power Through Narrative.

Mark your calendars: Immediately following the webinar at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will host a one-hour discussion. Join us in an engaging dialogue with peers across the country and share your experiences working toward equity. Guest Presenter(s)
