Leveraging media to transform public health narratives and policy

Date & time:
October 21, 2025 3pm EDT

The quality and accessibility of our information environment — which includes news media — affects our health and our ability to participate in decisions that shape it. Public health organizations and media outlets can work together to share accurate, trustworthy information that supports informed individual and policy decisions crucial to health, such as vaccination, fluoridation, and more. Media outlets can also help people understand the forces shaping their community conditions and health outcomes, inspire collective action, and help hold those in power accountable.

Our October webinar will explore strategies for leveraging the media to advance health at a time when public health infrastructure is strained. Linda Villarosa, a contributor to The New York Times, will highlight the benefits of media advocacy tools, such as op-eds, and share practical tips on how public health organizations can effectively engage with journalists. Rinku Sen, executive director of Narrative Initiative, will discuss how to integrate narrative power into media advocacy efforts and address misinformation to build trust and prompt dialogue.

Mark your calendars: Immediately following the webinar at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will host a one-hour discussion. Join us in an engaging dialogue with peers across the country and share your experiences working toward equity.
