Harnessing power to drive policy change
As we work toward a world where everyone has what they need to thrive, we must continue to uncover and challenge the power and rules—such as laws and policies—that shape health and well-being. Civic participation in political or electoral processes through voting or organizing can also influence policies that create opportunities for health, including safe spaces to live and work. Public health and health care practitioners have a role to play in advancing policy changes that improve health and equity. They can work with communities to build power together, advocate for policy change, and shift power to those who are most impacted. Join us this month to discuss ways to engage in policy and systems change in our work and everyday lives. We will welcome Jami Crespo, a senior attorney at ChangeLab Solutions, a nonpartisan nonprofit partnering with communities to reform harmful policies, laws and systems. McKenzie Cowlbeck, executive director of the Oklahoma Public Health Association, Oklahoma’s nonpartisan nonprofit professional association, will share tools and strategies to mobilize policy change.
Mark your calendars: Immediately following the webinar at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will host a one-hour discussion. Join us in an engaging dialogue with peers across the country and share your experiences working toward equity.
