Update: CHR&R will provide resources through December 2026
Through uncertain times, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R) remains committed to keeping as much data, evidence, narrative training, and other tools available for as long as possible.
In March, we shared that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) decided to end funding for CHR&R at the end of 2026. Since then, we have been listening to our users and partners to understand how we can best support their work going forward.
More than 1,800 people responded to our survey documenting how they use CHR&R resources and how the loss of our funding will impact their work. Responses reaffirmed that public health and health care organizations look to CHR&R as a trusted resource for providing timely and reliable data situated in a framework for analysis, planning, grant writing and case-making. (The survey remains open for you to respond here.)
We heard that CHR&R resources help reduce workload, fill gaps in access to reliable data, and facilitate efforts to address health inequities across the country — especially in rural and under-resourced communities. In the face of increasing political challenges — including reduced federal funding for public health research and infrastructure — access to timely, accurate, and disaggregated data and actionable tools has never been more critical. As long as possible, we hope our resources continue to help communities diagnose core social problems and implement evidence-informed solutions.
Although RWJF funding is ending in December 2026, we are seeking new funding to support the continuation and evolution of our resources. We are eager to connect with others interested in joining together to reimagine what’s possible.
Our work is rooted in a long-term vision where all people and places have what they need to thrive. Between now and December 2026, users can expect to continue to access data and resources on our website. Instead of an annual data release next spring, we plan to release several updates as new data becomes available. For example, this month we plan to update data on measures related to clinical care providers. And we recently spotlighted data on disaster-related policies and economic impacts.
We are also exploring ways to make a curated set of CHR&R resources available and usable beyond December 2026, when RWJF’s funding concludes. This could mean some of our data, evidence, and other resources are adapted or embedded on other websites or platforms.
We will continue to provide information as it becomes available and invite you to contact and be in conversation with us. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive the latest updates.
Thank you for the work that you do to create a world in which everyone has what they need to live long and live well.
