Community Development

As a community development professional, you are uniquely positioned to engage and influence decision makers within and outside of your organization to create a healthier community. By its very nature, your work is impacting health.

The Community Development sector includes professionals from multiple fields that share a common focus on improving low- and moderate-income communities. Community Development invests in these communities through the development and financing of affordable housing, businesses, community centers, health clinics, job-training programs, and services to support children and families. Community development professionals come from real estate, city planning, law, social work, public policy, public health, affordable housing, and finance fields.1

This guide will help you think through what you can do as a community development professional to better leverage additional partners and resources also working to create a healthier community. In this guide, you’ll find information to help you understand how you can use some of the tools in the Roadmaps to Health Action Center, as well as tools that are specific to your unique role in mobilizing your community to take action so all residents can be healthy.
