Share information with your community by making public presentations. You can give presentations to community groups, including civic groups (like the Kiwanis or Lions Club), faith-based groups, neighborhood organizations, non-profits, parent teacher associations, and other formal or informal groups from whom you want support. Remember, don’t always invite people to come to you – go to them!
Make your presentations powerful and persuasive. Here are some tips for creating powerful slide presentations:
- Don’t read the slides. Use slides to illustrate a point, not as presenter notes.
- Use examples to help your audience learn from other’s experience.
- Give less. Choose 3-5 points and illustrate them well.
- Provide structure and flow.
- Have takeaways. A one-pager that summarizes the presentation or focuses on action steps reinforces learning.¹
